Density Explorer

Density Explorer scrub, export CAD at threshold, or re-run with Keep % / Heaviside β.

After a topology solve, Density Explorer on the study detail page rebuilds a live CAD-like preview as you drag the density threshold. Aim for a single connected load path — then either export at that cut (free) or re-run with new dials.

Where to find it

  1. Finish a topology Study (Lighten this part or Design in a box).
  2. Open it on the Dashboard detail view.
  3. Open Density Explorer (under Result maps). Drag the threshold — a marching-cubes CAD preview rebuilds live as you move (not voxel boxes).
  4. When Supports and Loads stay one connected body, click Export CAD at this threshold — or re-queue with a new Keep % / Min wall / Heaviside β if the concept itself is wrong.

Preview vs export

  • Preview slider — explores the density field in the browser.
  • Export CAD at this threshold — server re-extracts organic STL/STEP/3MF from the existing density field at your ρ cut (no new SIMP credits). Overwrites the study downloads.
  • Re-run path — change Keep %, Min wall, or Heaviside β in Study, then Run. Topology re-optimizes; default extract is still ρ ≥ 0.50 until you export a different cut.

Good vs bad threshold

500 None connected body · touches Supports and Load
Good
One connected load path; members reach the Supports and the Load.
floating islands — raise Keep % or lower the threshold
Avoid
Floating islands / gaps. Raise Keep % and re-run, or lower the export threshold.

How to read the tool

  • Prefer exporting when the banner shows a single component.
  • Empty view = threshold too high. Sparse speckles = too low or a weak SIMP run.
  • Brighter / hotter colors here mean higher density— material the optimizer wants to keep. This is not the stress colormap; don't read it as MPa.
